ZANZIBARI is an immersion of culture and passion. It represents independence, tranquility, and the personal warmth of the unapologetically unique island in every way. I named my brand ZANZIBARI, out of nostalgia, significance of the island, and representation of how I see myself.
The word Mitindo in Kiswahili translates to “fashion”, and the word “green” can be a metaphor for sustainability, vibrancy, and peace. The fabrics used for Zanzibari are reutilized African print fabric deadstock (fabscraps) from all over Sub-Saharan Africa. Zanzibari represents my eclectic Green Mitindo journey through modern African diaspora.
Curating the Design
Waridi Valentine, the Founder, and owner of Zanzibari have an extensive background in visual arts and textiles. The fabscraps that are used to create most of the Zanzibari products are collected from various countries on the continent of Africa. The recycled sustainable African print materials are limited, once the print fabric is complete there is the availability of repeating the print.
CREATE YOUR OWN STATEMENT
ZANZIBARI is a unisex brand that promotes empowerment culture, heritage, and unity through design. Products are unique, made to order, and are available in limited quantities. Every piece is a statement peace.
